Brand strategy & design

I’ll guide you through my tried and tested brand discovery workshop, designed to help us all explore (and agree on) exactly what’s needed to help your brand succeed. Next I’ll carefully craft a brand strategy and brand system that may include any of the following: logos, brand look and feel (i.e colours and typefaces), tone of voice, brand illustration style, graphic assets, detailed guidance on how to use your brand assets going forward.

UI & product design

I can design user interfaces for both native and web applications. I can help you perfect the user experience of your app and also make it look beautiful. When I design specific screens or user flows I will always do this at the same time as building a library of components in Figma to help speed up future design and development. Although my UX skills are pretty good for projects with smaller budgets - when it comes to really complex UX problems I usually recommend that I work alongside a UX specialist, and/or UX researcher.

Web design

Once we’ve nailed your brand (or if you already have a brand that’s working well) I can start to implement it on your marketing or brochure website to help you deliver a really clear message to your customers. I design websites in Figma and can work collaboratively with your developers (or recommend one if needed) to ensure that what I create for you is not only practical to build within your budget, but that it’s also sustainable for you to maintain it.

Illustration

Illustration plays a big part in most things I do and my favourite projects are the ones that allow me to combine Illustration and design. My illustrations are digital and can be either vector or bitmap. I do have a preference for bitmap illustrations because it’s easier to create something richer and more unique - but vector illustrations can be very practical and sometimes are the more appropriate option for a brand. When I’m not working I like to draw all sorts of things and post them on my instagram page.

I’m a freelance senior designer specialising in design for tech and product businesses. I firmly believe in the value of delighting users, and so I work best with clients who hold those same values. By this, I mean businesses who aim to stand out, who want their customers/users to feel moments of delight and enjoyment throughout their interaction with their product or business.

I work with product teams to create design systems with libraries of reusable components that enable them to scale their products quickly without incurring design debt. This could be for a native or web app or website.

I have a background in brand design, so I can start at the very foundations with a brand discovery workshop and full brand design.

Alongside my UI and brand design work I also love to draw whenever I can. I’ve worked with several product businesses to create a brand illustration system that not only adds character and delight, but also gives visual clues that enhance the user experience. With my experience in UI design, I’m able to work seamlessly with design teams, understanding the constraints and requirements for illustrations within a responsive environment.

I do occasionally take on illustration commissions in other sectors, which is a nice way to keep my creative horizons open rather than living in a product bubble. See my Instagram account for more creative experimentation.
